Ahold Executive Appointments at AH and Gall & Gall
The Executive Board of Ahold on Monday announced the appointment of Jeroen Smits as Executive Vice President, Buying & Merchandising at its Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn, effective January 8, 2002. Albert Heijn is Ahold's flagship supermarket company in The Netherlands with approximately 700 stores and sales of over Euro 5.5 billion.

Ahold appoints Marcelo Silva President G. Barbosa
The Ahold Corporate Executive Board has appointed Marcelo Silva President of its recently acquired Brazilian supermarket company G. Barbosa, effective January 2, 2002. The new Ahold subsidiary operates 32 hypermarkets and supermarkets in northeastern Brazil, with annualized sales of approximately Euro 300 million.

HBG builds compression module for Conoco
The oil company Conoco UK has awarded HBG Steel Structures - part of HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv - the contract to supply a compression module destined for the Murdoch offshore complex, which is located approximately 180 kilometres north-east of Grimsby in the UK sector of the North Sea. Design and build of the module represents an investment in excess of 13 million.

Air France shares boosted by positive BA and KLM announcements
Encouraging passenger figure announcements by British Airways and Dutch airline KLM led to shares in French airline Air France gaining 6.48% to EUR 17.1 on Friday. The French group is due to announce its own figures tomorrow evening. After dropping 10.1% in October, the airline's passenger numbers were down by 7.2% in November.

Roels to quit Shell in June
Harry Roels, a Dutch member of the five-man committee that runs Royal Dutch/Shell, is to resign in June, in a move that could open the delicate issue of national balance among the British and Dutch top managers of the oil group. The company said Roels, 53, who has been with the group for his entire career, was resigning as managing director of Royal Dutch Petroleum and as group managing director of the Shell group, for personal reasons, at his own request.

KPNQWest delivers high capacity transatlantic connectivity
KPNQWest has signed a contract with DANTE, the organisation responsible for managing GANT - the world's largest academic and research network - to provide two high-capacity transatlantic connections to support its data-intensive academic and scientific research requirements. Under the terms of the agreement, KPNQWest will provide two 2,5 Gbit/s wavelengths between Frankfurt, London and New York linking GANT and three top North American research networks: ESnet, CANARIE and ABILENE (internet2).
